(1) = Flair wins the NWA World Heavyweight Title from Sting, and is then recognized as the first WCW World Heavyweight Champion.
(2) = Ric Flair was fired by WCW on 01/07/91, Lex Luger defeated Barry Windham to win the vacated title.
(3) = The world title was held up after a match between Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat on 17/04/94 ended in a double pin.
(4) = Ric Flair defeated Ricky Steamboat in the rematch. On 23/06/94, defeats Sting to unify the World Heavyweight and International Heavyweight titles.
(5) = The Giant won the title via DQ, Hulk Hogan's manager Jimmy Hart signed a contract saying the title could change hands on a DQ. The Giant was stripped on 06/11/95 after WCW claimed the decision was 'dubious'.
(6) = Randy Savage won a 60 man, three ring battle royal to determine the new champ. Conflicts arose because Hulk Hogan had not been properly eliminated during the match, but referee Randy Anderson gave the match to Savage anyway.
(7) = The title was declared vacant by J.J. Dillon (chairman of WCW Executive Committee) on 08/01/98 because of a controversial ending in the match Sting won the title.
(8) = Defeated Hulk Hogan for the vacant title.
(9) = Diamond Dallas Page won the title in a Four Corners match in which whoever got the pin on anyone won the title.
(10) = Diamond Dallas Page won the title in a Four Corners match in which whoever got the pin on anyone won the title. 
(11) = Randy Savage won the title in a tag team match in which whoever got the pin on anyone in the other team won the title.
(12) = Sting was stripped of the title on 25/10/99 for attacking the referee of his match the previous night.
(13) = Bret Hart won the vacant title in the tournament final over Chris Benoit. The title was vacated on 19/12/99 after a contraversial ending to a match.
(14) = Bret Hart defeated Goldberg to regain the title, but the title was again vacated on 16/01/00 due to injury.
(15) = Chris Benoit defeated Sid Vicious to win the vacant title, but vacates it after one day when he leaves to go to the WWF.
(16) = Sid Vicious defeats Kevin Nash to win the vacant title, but is stripped by Kevin Nash (who was also WCW Commissioner) on 25/01/00.
(17) = Kevin Nash awards himself the vacant title.
(18) = Sid Vicious wins the title in a triangle match over Kevin Nash and Ron Harris. All titles were declared vacant on order from Eric Bischoff and Vince Russo on 10/04/00.
(19) = Jeff Jarratt won the vacant title in the tournament final over Diamond Dallas Page.
(20) = David Arquette, an actor, won the match in a tag team match in which whoever got the pin on anyone in the other team won the title.
(21) = Jeff Jarratt defeated David Arquette and Diamond Dallas Page in a triple cage triangle match.
(22) = Ric Flair was stripped of the title by Vince Russo on 22/05/00 for no reason at all.
(23) = Jeff Jarratt defeated Kevin Nash to won the vacant title.
(24) = Kevin Nash defeated Jeff Jarratt and Scott Steiner in a triangle match. After his victory, he gave the belt back to Ric Flair, claiming "he was it's rightful owner".
(25) = The title was vacated by Vince Russo, claiming he was sick of backstage politics and the fact that Jeff Jarratt was about to lie down for Hulk Hogan.
(26) = Booker T defeated Jeff Jarratt to claim the vacant title.
(27) = Booker T was stripped of the title on 25/09/00 over a contraversial ending to a steel cage match he had with Vince Russo.
(28) = Booker T won the vacant title over Jeff Jarratt.
